Ujjwala Foundation · Rural Telangana

When a family is already struggling, one more setback can change everything.

A child falling behind. A farmer facing a difficult season. A woman with a skill but no opportunity. A family running out of options.

Sometimes one setback can change what comes next. Ujjwala works alongside communities to help people overcome these barriers and take the next step forward.

The problem

Sometimes, one thing going wrongmakes everything harder.

  • Children studying at desks in a government school classroom in India

    A child falling behind.

One disruption can become a longer educational setback.

  • A family outside their home in a rural Indian village

    A family under financial pressure.

When money becomes fear, choices become harder.

  • A farmer working his field in rural India

A farmer facing the next season.

The need starts before the harvest.

  • A woman working at a loom in India

A woman with a skill but no path to income.

A skill becomes opportunity when it can lead to real income.

The problem is rarely just one problem.

One real story

The week 300 families just neededsomeone to show up.

Before
September 2025. Days of rain, and Hyderabad's low-lying colonies went under. For families who earn by the day, the water took the week's wages and the food stored at home in the same night.
The barrier
What they needed was not a scheme in three months. It was groceries that week — rice, dal, oil, salt — and someone who knew which lanes to walk down first.
What Ujjwala did
Our team and volunteers procured and hand-delivered 300 grocery kits at ₹3,500 each — ₹10,50,000 in total, funded entirely by the trustees.
What came next
Families had food for the weeks after the water went down. And we learned something we now build into everything: help moves fastest where someone local already knows the households most at risk.

Why Ujjwala

We don't believe one problemexists on its own.

Education affects opportunity.
Income affects security.
Security affects choices.
Choices shape what comes next.

So we work in a circle, not a line — helping a family through one step in a way that makes the next one lighter. We call it the Circle. It is the one thing every Ujjwala programme has in common.

How the Circle works
  1. 01

    Protect

Food, health and relief when a household is exposed.

  2. 02

    Learn

Schooling that continues, and skills that are actually usable.

  3. 03

    Earn

Farming inputs, enterprise support and a way to reach a market.

  4. 04

    Lead

Women with information, confidence and a say at home.

  5. 05

    Build

Capability that starts to circulate through the village.

Education

Keep a future open

A disruption in a child's education can become a much bigger setback over time.

Why now · The school year does not wait. Practice material and support have to reach a child while the class is still moving.

Agriculture

Seed & Soil

A farmer's season begins long before the harvest. Timely support can help make that beginning possible.

Why now · Inputs are only useful before sowing. Once the window closes, the whole season is decided.

Women & livelihoods

Her skill. Her income.

A skill can create a future when there is also a real path to earning.

Why now · Women who have finished training are ready now. Without a route to market, the skill starts to fade.

Where your support goes

Your support helps keepthe work moving.

Strong community work needs people, transport, communication, accounting, monitoring and follow-up. Your support helps us keep showing up — not just arrive once.

Unless you choose a specific campaign, contributions are pooled and applied where the work is ready. We do not publish per-rupee outcome claims we cannot verify.

  1. The need

September 2025. Hyderabad's low-lying colonies flooded. Daily-wage families lost the week's income and the food at home in one night.

  2. The action

  3. The change

Families had food for the weeks that followed. And every campaign we run now starts by finding the local person who already knows which households are most at risk.

Give monthly · Circle Keepers

Some change needs someoneto keep showing up.

A village does not become stronger because someone helped once. It becomes stronger because someone kept showing up.

Circle Keepers give a fixed amount each month. It is the support that lets us commit to a household before the money has fully arrived — and it is the one you can stop whenever you need to.
